The results of DESI 2018 are now available. The Index of Economy and Digital Society (DESI) is an aggregate index that summarizes the main indicators on the digital performance of Europe and tracks the evolution of the EU Member States in digital competitiveness.
With the objective of measuring the progress of EU member states towards a digital economy and society, DESI helps EU countries identify those areas that require investment and priority actions in five major areas: connectivity, human capital, use of the internet, integration of digital technology in companies and digital public services.
This year, the DESI also includes the analysis that member states make of their digital policies at the national level and that provide an overview of the progress and implementation of policies by each member state (previously called progress report). digital of Europe).
The Commission has submitted 29 legislative proposals in the framework of its digital single market strategy and has called, in a recent Communication, on the European Parliament and the Member States to adopt these proposals before the end of 2018.
In 2017, all Member States improved in the DESI and especially Spain and Ireland with a growth of about 5 points compared to the European average of around 3.2. On the other hand, there was a slight increase in Denmark and Portugal (below 2 points)
